Gleneagles’ trout lochs provide the finest fishing experience – for the expert seeking to extend their range or for a wonderful introduction to the sport. Our ghillies provide a fisherman’s knowledge of the water, and some wry local humour, as well as advice on the best tackle, flies and strategies for a truly unforgettable experience.
Lessons from two hours are available for everyone aged eight and over, with rods and tackle included in the booking fee.
Experienced fly-fishers will find the fabled River Tay nearby, while salmon fishing can be arranged off-property in season.

Fly Fishing for Wild Atlantic Salmon
AVAILABLE 15 JANUARY - 31 OCTOBER
The landing of one’s first salmon is a milestone for every fisherman and will remain with you forever. For some this exhilarating event occurs early on in their fishing career, whilst others may endure a long wait before tasting success.
The River Tay is internationally renowned for its world class salmon fishing and is one of the best salmon rivers in the United Kingdom, and Western Europe, attracting anglers from all over the planet. The largest rod caught salmon in Britain, caught on the Tay by Miss Georgina Ballantine in 1922, weighing 64 pounds (29 kg) and is unlikely ever to be broken.
The River Tay system is unique as it is fed by several large lochs including Loch Tay, Rannoch and Loch Tummel, and regardless of weather, remains one of the only rivers in the UK with sufficient water for salmon to run all year round. As a result of this, several runs of salmon occur throughout the season and for this reason, the River Tay offers the visiting angler the best all round opportunity of landing a salmon.
