Quirky Going Greens at Gleneagles
- The 'green waste' generated daily by the upkeep of Gleneagles' 850 acres including the three championship golf courses, is collected by a local farmer and 'matured' into compost. This nutrient-rich compost is then returned to Gleneagles to assist in guaranteeing the grounds are maintained to their current high standards.
- Gleneagles large amount of left-over wine corks are sent to the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, where they are utilised in their drainage systems.
- Gleneagles has created a woodland walk where guests can enjoy seeing the wonders of Scottish wildlife within their natural surroundings. Guests can wander through at their leisure or opt for one of the weekly guided walks, where a specialist guide is on hand to educate visitors on the many plants and animals which co-habit this protected woodland.
- Turf cores from our three championship golf courses are re-used in landscaping projects around the resort. In 2007 they were used to assist in the landscaping of Glenmor, Gleneagles seasonal ownership village.
- To keep the Facilities team fit, we purchased three bikes to enable them to access the entire 850 acre resort. This has avoided the necessity to purchase an additional van, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
- The candles that form an integral part of our function flower arrangements, are melted down after use and reformed to re-use in other displays around the resort.
- The Gleneagles florists, based in the greenhouse, grow our very own organic grapes. During the season, this initiative provides us with grapes for the fruit platters served daily throughout the resort.
