- Within our Deseo courtyard we have recently started to cultivate herbs, some of which include chocolate mint and lemon verbena. These herbs are then used throughout the resort kitchens to further enhance the dishes on our menus.
- Fallen trees have now been utilised to assist with the design of the new jumps on the cross country course at the Equestrian School.
- Polystyrene is now collected on site for recycling, this is then compressed and used to make the inserts for compact discs.
- Team members from throughout the resort have been on a number of fam trips to enhance knowledge of sustainability at Gleneagles including, our waste provider and Perthshire Big Tree Country guided tour.
- No mains water is now required for our hanging baskets; instead a rainwater recovery system is in place to ensure all the hanging baskets in and around the resort are looking stunning throughout the seasons.
- Gleneagles Florists grow our very own organic grapes in the greenhouses. This initiative provides us with grapes for the fruit platters served daily throughout the resort during the fruiting season.

All our left-over wine corks are sent to the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, where they are recycled in their innovative drainage systems.

To keep the Facilities team fit, we purchased three bikes to enable them to access the entire 850 acre resort. This has avoided the necessity to purchase an additional van, thereby helping us in our effort to become a carbon neutral hotel.

Decorative candles form an integral part of our flower arrangements. At the end of an event, these are melted down and reformed to use in sustainable hotel displays.

The ‘green waste’ generated daily by the upkeep of Gleneagles’ 850 acres, including the three championship golf courses, is collected by a local farmer and ‘matured’ into compost. This nutrient-rich compost is then returned to Gleneagles to assist in maintaining the high standards of the grounds.
