Gleneagles: 5 Star luxury Hotel, Spa & Resort

The Gleneagles Shooting and Fishing School

<< Back to Media Information

The Gleneagles Shooting and Fishing School has a world class reputation. The shooting school provides an unrivalled sporting clay layout and the most expert instruction in this discipline at all levels of skill. The school attracts guests from as far afield as North America and Japan to test their skill at shooting clay targets, which simulate the flight of game birds and ground game across the Scottish moors. The fishing school offers fly fishing tuition for brown and rainbow trout on lochs within the Gleneagles estate and nearby for guests of all abilities. Salmon fishing is also offered on the river’s Tay and Teith.

The shooting school, opened in 1985, has been extended twice, at a total cost of more than £0.5 million. The fishing school opened in May 1998. In 2002, The Gleneagles Hotel took over the management of the shooting and fishing school from Sir Jackie Stewart.

A total of 13 target disciplines provide an unrivalled sporting layout. Most spectacular is King's Pheasant from a 30.48 metre (100 ft) tower.

In 1995 target archery and air rifle shooting were added to the school's attractions.
More than 80% of guests are first-time shooters and, on average, 30% are ladies (who, incidentally, are usually much better first-time shots).

Protective clothing, transport and equipment, including guns, are included in the cost of shooting at the school. A Finnish log shooting lodge and shop provide function facilities, an informal lounge and equipment storage.

A Gleneagles Celebrity Challenge, held in July 1995, was attended by members of the British Royal Family and by stage, screen and sporting celebrities.

Chris Jenkins is Shooting School Manager and there are six full time and ten part time staff instructors.
