Design Concept For Braid House

Amanda Rosa says:

I was asked to provide an interior that would both complement the contemporary approach of the Braid House exterior and echo the classic feel of previous refurbishment schemes, which have proved to be successful with Gleneagles' clientele. The finished rooms also had to complement the impressive scale and features of existing bedrooms.

A different colour scheme for each floor within Braid House was proposed and these range from subtle earthy tones such as 'copper and sage' and 'heather', which reflect the hotel's scenery, to a sharper more contemporary 'steel blue'and a crisp 'crimson'scheme. The intention was to achieve a tranquil, restful interior that would harmonise with the hotel’s grounds and surrounding outlook.

Rather than following a predictably modern route, all the rooms share 1920s-influenced dark timber furniture finished in a high polish lacquer with chrome detailing. This is reflected in the bespoke deco-style lighting.

The dark contrasting furniture has been balanced with very soft textured fabrics, including silks, plaids and fine leathers. Each room has its own fireplace with a muted stone surround and artwork includes commissioned contemporary photography from the surrounding area and original canvas wall hangings.

The bathrooms share the bedrooms' dark wood features. Many have porthole windows with timber-slatted blinds and all are finished in granite and marble in grey hues. The freestanding baths and wash hand basins were selected as they are a contemporary twist on traditional pieces.

The corridor spaces feature neutral tones as well as dramatic timber panelling and large-scale art-deco wall lights - features that help tie in the more modern proportioned corridors with the grand scale of the hotel's existing corridors.
