Emma and Steve Ford
Emma and Steve Ford opened The British School of Falconry in 1982; it was the first dedicated falconry school in the world.
In 1992 they moved the school to Gleneagles and in 1995 opened a branch at The Equinox Resort & Spa in Vermont, USA.
The Fords were invited to the Arabian peninsula by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss Arabic and European falconry methods and have since taught many students from the Middle East.
Emma, author of a number of standard works on falconry and birds of prey, is an elected member of the Scottish Hawk Board and the Scottish government advisory panel on legislation concerning falconry and birds of prey in captivity.
Emma is also the author of Encyclopaedia Britannica's falconry article. To view the article, which is interactive, visit this Britannica.com link.
